Choosing Kindness Today

In this devotional, we reflect on Ephesians 4:32 and the call to be kind, tenderhearted, and forgiving. Kindness is presented as something Christians are called to practice, not merely a natural personality trait.

The message emphasizes that kindness is often a choice made in difficult moments. It can be easier to be impatient, dismissive, or indifferent, but Scripture calls for intentional responses in speech, actions, and treatment of others.

The devotional also points to small acts of kindness, such as a kind word, a patient response, or a thoughtful action. These are described as simple but meaningful expressions of a heart being shaped by God.

The closing prayer asks God for help in showing the same kindness that has been shown to us. It seeks patience, compassion, and awareness in daily interactions, and asks for strength to choose kindness even when it is not easy.

Kindness is easy when it comes naturally, but it’s much harder when it has to be chosen.

Ephesians chapter 4 verse 32 says, and be ye kind one to another,

4
00:00:30,400 –> 00:00:36,520
Randy Black:
tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

5
00:00:37,080 –> 00:00:42,080
Randy Black:
That reminds us that kindness is something we are called to practice.

6
00:00:44,460 –> 00:00:49,580
Randy Black:
Kindness isn’t just a personality trait. Ultimately, it’s a decision.

7
00:00:50,140 –> 00:00:54,540
Randy Black:
There’s going to be moments today when it’d be easier for you to be impatient,

8
00:00:54,540 –> 00:00:57,840
Randy Black:
to be dismissive, or to be indifferent.

9
00:00:58,400 –> 00:01:05,760
Randy Black:
Moments when kindness does not come naturally, but Scripture calls us to do

10
00:01:05,760 –> 00:01:07,300
Randy Black:
something intentional.

11
00:01:09,160 –> 00:01:15,920
Randy Black:
Kindness shows up in how you respond, in how you speak, and in how you treat

12
00:01:15,920 –> 00:01:19,880
Randy Black:
others, especially when it isn’t easy.

13
00:01:19,880 –> 00:01:30,340
Randy Black:
And often, it’s the small moments that end up mattering the most A kind word

14
00:01:30,340 –> 00:01:38,620
Randy Black:
A patient response A thoughtful action Those aren’t big,

15
00:01:38,880 –> 00:01:45,380
Randy Black:
huge, dramatic gestures But they reflect something much deeper,

16
00:01:46,620 –> 00:01:51,340
Randy Black:
they reflect a heart that is being shaped by God.

17
00:01:53,890 –> 00:02:01,190
Randy Black:
So today, choose kindness. Choose kindness in your conversations.

18
00:02:02,810 –> 00:02:08,830
Randy Black:
Choose it in your reactions. And choose it in your interactions.

19
00:02:10,449 –> 00:02:16,770
Randy Black:
Pause and choose a kind response. Even when it’s not returned.

20
00:02:17,630 –> 00:02:20,630
Randy Black:
Even when it goes unnoticed.

21
00:02:22,070 –> 00:02:26,949
Randy Black:
Let kindness be something you practice on purpose,

22
00:02:29,949 –> 00:02:35,949
Randy Black:
lord thank you for the kindness you have shown to us help us to reflect that

23
00:02:35,949 –> 00:02:44,490
Randy Black:
same kindness in a way in which we treat others give us patience give us compassion,

24
00:02:45,730 –> 00:02:51,050
Randy Black:
Give us awareness about how we handle these things in our daily interactions.

25
00:02:52,550 –> 00:02:59,190
Randy Black:
Teach us to choose kindness even when it is not easy.

26
00:03:00,610 –> 00:03:04,590
Randy Black:
We ask these things in the name of your son, Jesus. Amen.
