Speak Words That Build Up

In this episode we reflect on the power of words and how spoken communication cannot be taken back once it is said. We focus on the idea that everyday speech has real impact and can either build others up or tear them down.

We read from Ephesians 4:29, which calls for speech that is good for edification and that gives grace to those who hear it. We use this verse to emphasize that our words should be intentional and should bring value, encouragement, and support.

We also consider how careless remarks, frustrated tones, or quick responses can affect others even when not intended. The message is to pause before speaking, ask whether our words will build up or tear down, and choose language that brings life rather than harm.

The episode closes with a prayer for wisdom, mindfulness, and the ability to speak in ways that encourage others and reflect God’s truth.

Words, they’re easy to say.

But once they’re spoken, they can’t be taken back.

Ephesians chapter 4 verse 29 says, Let no corrupt communication proceed out

00:00:33,477 –> 00:00:41,257
Randy Black:
of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying,

6
00:00:42,257 –> 00:00:46,877
Randy Black:
that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

7
00:00:47,597 –> 00:00:51,037
Randy Black:
Man, that shows the impact.

8
00:00:51,777 –> 00:00:53,777
Randy Black:
That words can have.

9
00:00:55,717 –> 00:01:00,897
Randy Black:
Every day, we have countless opportunities to speak.

10
00:01:01,797 –> 00:01:08,837
Randy Black:
And in those moments, our words can either build up or they can tear down.

11
00:01:09,597 –> 00:01:12,637
Randy Black:
Sometimes, it’s not even intentional.

12
00:01:13,697 –> 00:01:21,157
Randy Black:
A quick comment, a careless response, or a frustrated tone can leave a lasting impression.

13
00:01:22,717 –> 00:01:32,117
Randy Black:
But scripture calls us to be intentional with what we say, to choose words that encourage,

14
00:01:33,697 –> 00:01:38,957
Randy Black:
that support, and that bring value to others.

15
00:01:42,151 –> 00:01:49,671
Randy Black:
And when you begin to speak that way, you influence the environment that’s around you.

16
00:01:50,531 –> 00:01:54,611
Randy Black:
Your words begin to reflect something different.

17
00:01:56,731 –> 00:02:00,931
Randy Black:
So today, be intentional with your words.

18
00:02:01,771 –> 00:02:05,251
Randy Black:
Before you speak, consider what you’re about to say.

19
00:02:06,611 –> 00:02:10,371
Randy Black:
Ask yourself, does this build up?

20
00:02:12,151 –> 00:02:21,051
Randy Black:
Or does this tear down? Choose words that encourage and ultimately bring value to others.

21
00:02:24,931 –> 00:02:27,991
Randy Black:
Lord, help us to be mindful of our words.

22
00:02:29,331 –> 00:02:34,571
Randy Black:
Give us wisdom in how we speak and awareness of how our words affect others.

23
00:02:35,831 –> 00:02:45,411
Randy Black:
Teach us to use our words to encourage, to support, and to reflect your truth.

24
00:02:47,051 –> 00:02:51,411
Randy Black:
Let what we say bring life, not harm.

25
00:02:52,491 –> 00:02:56,851
Randy Black:
We ask these in the name of your Son, Jesus. Amen.
