In this devotional, we reflect on how easy it is to feel overwhelmed by everything ahead and how we are not meant to carry the whole future at once. We read from Proverbs 3:5-6, which calls us to trust in the Lord with all our heart, not lean on our own understanding, and acknowledge him in all our ways.
We talk about how worry often grows when we try to think about tomorrow, next week, and every possible outcome at once. Instead, we are reminded that God does not ask us to solve the entire future. He asks us to trust him with today and take the next step even without all the answers.
We focus on narrowing our attention to what is in front of us now. The message is that when we do that, what felt overwhelming becomes more manageable, because today is where God’s grace meets us.
We close by praying for help to trust God with today, to rely on him instead of our own understanding, and to take one step at a time in peace, believing that he is guiding us forward.

Randy Black:
It’s really easy to feel overwhelmed when you think about everything ahead.
2
00:00:10,720 –> 00:00:15,100
Randy Black:
But you were never meant to carry all of that at once.
3
00:00:17,280 –> 00:00:23,079
Randy Black:
Welcome to Bible Bytes Daily Devotionals, a weekday devotional to help you stay grounded in God’s Word.
4
00:00:26,540 –> 00:00:33,000
Randy Black:
Proverbs chapter 3, verses 5 and 6 says, Trust in the Lord with all thine heart,
5
00:00:33,040 –> 00:00:35,940
Randy Black:
and lean not unto thy own understanding.
6
00:00:36,240 –> 00:00:40,820
Randy Black:
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7
00:00:42,080 –> 00:00:52,020
Randy Black:
That reminds us that trust begins when we stop relying only on what it is that we can see.
8
00:00:53,600 –> 00:00:57,220
Randy Black:
One of the reasons we feel overwhelmed is
9
00:00:57,220 –> 00:01:04,140
Randy Black:
because we try to carry too much at once we think about tomorrow about next
10
00:01:04,140 –> 00:01:11,240
Randy Black:
week and about everything that could happen and suddenly it all becomes heavy
11
00:01:11,240 –> 00:01:16,440
Randy Black:
but god never asked you to figure out the entire future,
12
00:01:17,400 –> 00:01:20,880
Randy Black:
He asks you to trust him with today.
13
00:01:22,060 –> 00:01:25,160
Randy Black:
Trusting God doesn’t mean you have all the answers.
14
00:01:25,640 –> 00:01:30,860
Randy Black:
It means you’re willing to take the next step without having them.
15
00:01:31,560 –> 00:01:37,380
Randy Black:
And when you narrow your focus to today, something changes in you.
16
00:01:38,200 –> 00:01:50,000
Randy Black:
What felt overwhelming suddenly becomes manageable. because today is where God’s grace meets you.
17
00:01:51,340 –> 00:01:58,000
Randy Black:
So today, bring your focus back to what is in front of you.
18
00:01:58,800 –> 00:02:05,620
Randy Black:
Instead of trying to solve everything that’s ahead, ask yourself this,
19
00:02:06,080 –> 00:02:10,639
Randy Black:
what is one step that I need to take today?
20
00:02:11,600 –> 00:02:19,480
Randy Black:
Trust God with that step you don’t need the full picture you just need to move
21
00:02:19,480 –> 00:02:22,000
Randy Black:
forward and trust with him.
22
00:02:24,190 –> 00:02:28,030
Randy Black:
Lord, help us to trust you with today.
23
00:02:28,910 –> 00:02:35,150
Randy Black:
When we feel overwhelmed by what’s ahead, remind us to focus on what you’ve placed in front of us.
24
00:02:36,050 –> 00:02:41,030
Randy Black:
Teach us to rely on you instead of our own understanding.
25
00:02:42,070 –> 00:02:52,810
Randy Black:
Give us peace in taking one step at a time, trusting that you ultimately are guiding us forward.
26
00:02:54,190 –> 00:02:57,449
Randy Black:
In the name of your son, Jesus, we pray. Amen.
