:Through this scripture, we'll explore the deeper spiritual significance of the event and consider how that it applies to our lives today.

:Heavenly Father.
:We come before you with humble hearts, seeking wisdom and understanding as we study your word.
:Thank you for the example of compassion and courage that Jesus displayed in healing on the Sabbath.
:Open our hearts to receive the truth of your word, and help us to live in a way that reflects your love and your grace.
:Guide us by your Spirit as we learn from this passage

:Luke chapter 14, verses 1 through 6.
:It happened that when Jesus went into the house of one of the leaders of the Pharisees on the Sabbath to eat bread.
:They were watching him closely, and there in front of him was a man suffering from edema.
:And Jesus responded and said to the lawyers and Pharisees, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?
:But they kept silent, and he took hold of him.
:and healed him, and sent him away.
:And he said to them, Which one of you will have a son or an ox fall into a well, and will not immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?
:And they could offer no reply to this.
:The setting of this account is significant.
:Jesus is dining at the home of a Pharisee, a prominent leader in Jewish society.
:The Pharisees were known for their strict adherence to the law, and their invitation to Jesus was likely motivated by a desire to scrutinize his actions.
:The presence of the man with the edema at this meal may have have been a deliberate setup intended to test Jesus' commitment to the Sabbath laws.
:Jesus, aware of their intentions, does not shy away from the situation.
:Instead, he uses the moment to confront the legalism that prioritized rules over compassion.
:His question
:Is it legal to heal on the Sabbath or not?
:Directly challenges their understanding of God's law.
:The Pharisees' silence speaks volumes
:Revealing their inability to reconcile their rigid interpretation of the Sabbath with a deeper call to love and mercy
:By healing the man, Jesus demonstrates that acts of compassion and necessity align with the heart of God's law
:He then drives his point home with a practical analogy.
:If they would rescue a sun or an ox from a well on the Sabbath.
:How much more should they care for a suffering human being?
:This reasoning exposes their hypocrisy, and highlights the true purpose of the Sabbath restoration and blessing.

:Not only does he perform the miracle, but he also interprets the law with divine wisdom

:This man who have been may have been marginalized or ignored was seen and valued by Jesus

:We are also invited to reflect on the purpose of rest in our lives
:The Sabbath was designed as a gift, a time to cease from work and focus on God's blessings.
:Yet, like the Pharisees,
:We can sometimes turn it into a checklist of do's and don'ts.
:How can we reclaim the Sabbath as a time for worship, restoration, and acts of kindness?
:Furthermore, this account in the scripture highlights the courage required to stand up for what is right.
:Jesus knew he was being watched and judged, yet he boldly acted in accordance with God's will.
:As followers of Christ, we are called to demonstrate similar courage in standing up for love and mercy, even when it challenges societal norms and expectations.
:Finally, we see the value that Jesus places on every individual
:The man with the edema was likely marginalized and overlooked by society, but Jesus noticed him, and he cared for him.
:This reminds us that we have to see others through the eyes of Christ, through the eyes of God, valuing their worth and addressing their needs with compassion.
:Let's close out our study of this scripture with a word of prayer.
:Lord, we thank you for the example of Jesus, who showed us how to love and care for others without being bound by legalism.
:Help us to embrace the true spirit of your law, which is grounded in love and mercy.
:Teach us to see the needs of those around us and to act with courage and compassion.
:May we honor you by living lives that reflect your grace and truth.

:We're fingers crossed, hoping for good things, but we've handed it over to the Lord.
:We know that it's it's all on it's all on God.
:It's up to Him.
:We want to continue to remember family friend Greg.
:Um I'll be spending some time with him tomorrow.
:So I'll chat with him a bit, see how he's doing, and catch up with him on uh the progress of things uh with what's going on with his health
:Uh Tim Kaletka, still remember him as he's going through the health issues he has.
:Um remember me.
:Um I had a uh a a flare up with edema in my leg, which is ironic considering the
:topic of today's episode um uh this week and I had to actually got to work and then had to leave and come home and miss the next day.
:Um spiked a fever at a
:pretty high at 103.
:8 at one point before I was able to take some Tylenol and start the process of resting to intervene.
:Um so please remember me with that and as well as the things that other things that are going on that we're working through.
:I am down right at 25 pounds in four months, which is a good move.
:Uh and we're moving slowly toward a full dose of the new medicine
:as we adjust to it to see where things go.
:We also want to add to the list my my wife, her cousin Isaac.
:He's currently
:uh in in the hospital uh here locally uh not doing very well um not sure what all's going on uh but at one point he was moved to intent to an intensive care
:um unit.
:So kind of remember him and lift him up in prayer.
:We know that he's he doesn't he doesn't know Jesus as his Savior.
:We hope that
:that that call, that stir in his heart comes about from this, and that he can accept Jesus uh as his savior and start attending church and
:hopefully um be able to spend eternity in heaven with all of us uh in in the future.
:Let's go ahead and close out the episode with one more prayer before we talk about our next episode.
:Heavenly Father, we thank you once again for the chance to gather, to study, and learn from your word.
:We come together to lift up these requests that we know you can touch them and provide answers that fit with your will.
:Please, Lord, remember my mother and my father as we deal with my father's cancer treatments and the things going on with it.
:Remember Greg, our our dear family friend, as he's dealing with a a similar form of cancer as well
:Tim Kalecka as he goes through everything that he's going through, Lord.

:Continue to bless him in his life.
:Remember me that I can continue to make the moves to and to make myself better.
:and make the decisions with with the help of my my care team to do the right things in doing that.
:And then let's remember my wife.

:He's in the hospital and just touch him and heal him, but most importantly, put that stir in his heart that he might come to know your Son, Jesus as his Savior.
:We also lift up any unspoken requests that members of our audience might have so that you can touch those as well.
:We know that you hold the answers
:And we trust your wisdom in meeting them.
:Because whatever answers you provide, we know are within your will and what you want to see done
