God Revealed: Creation and Scripture

Share on social media:

What does creation tell us about God, and what happens when God speaks directly through His Word? In Psalm 19, David takes us on a remarkable journey from the heavens above us to the Word of God and finally to the condition of our own hearts. “The heavens declare the glory of God,” while the law, testimony, statutes, commandments, and judgments of the LORD reveal His truth, wisdom, and character.

In this episode, we explore three movements in Psalm 19: the creation that declares God's glory, the Word that reveals God's truth, and the response that transforms our lives. Creation points us toward the Creator, but Scripture gives us specific revelation about who God is and how He desires us to live. David's final prayer reminds us that God's revelation should lead to personal examination, repentance, obedience, and a desire for our words and thoughts to be acceptable before Him.

The encouragement of Psalm 19 is that God has not hidden Himself from us. He has revealed His glory through creation and His truth through Scripture. As we see Him more clearly, we can also see ourselves more honestly and depend upon Him as our strength and redeemer.

Key Takeaways
  • Creation declares the glory of its Creator.
  • God has revealed Himself through both creation and His Word.
  • Scripture reveals God's character, truth, wisdom, and will.
  • God's Word is meant to transform us, not merely inform us.
  • Seeing God clearly should lead us to examine ourselves honestly.
  • The proper response to God's revelation is worship, obedience, repentance, and faithful living.

Supporting Scriptures:
Suggested Reading This Week
Continue reflecting on God's revelation by spending time in these passages:
As you read, consider these questions:
  • When I look at creation, does it lead me to worship the Creator?
  • How highly do I value God's Word?
  • Am I allowing Scripture to transform me or merely inform me?
  • What has God's Word recently revealed about my heart?
  • Are there “secret faults” I need to bring before God?
  • Can I sincerely pray, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight”?
This Week's Challenge
Read Psalm 19 each day.

Spend a few moments observing God's creation and allow what you see to direct your attention toward Him. Then spend time in His Word and write down one thing it reveals about God and one thing it reveals about you.

Finish by praying Psalm 19:14:

“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”
